We have ample opportunities for church involvement, including the men’s groups, the Presbyterian Women’s group, and the Youth’s and Children’s groups. We participate in local, national, and international ministries.

First Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Synod of Living Waters and the Presbytery of the Mid-South.

Lent 2019

It seems like Christmas just ended and alrady we are approaching Lent.  Here at First Presbyterian we have scheduled a full slate of Lenten activities.

We will begin the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday, with a Lenten Soup Supper in Morrison Hall.  Then we will proceed across the street and join our friends at the Methodist Church for a joint worship service and the administration of ashes.

On the next five succeeding Wednesdays, Richard Rucker will lead a Bible Study series related to the Lenten season.

April 14 will begin Holy Week with a Palm Sunday service along with the children’s Palm Display.  On the evening of April 18, there will be a Maundy Thursday worship service.

The season wouldn’t be complete without our third annual Pancake Breakfast, including a visit with the Easter Bunny.  Later in the day the kiddies will enjoy the annual Easter Egg Hunt.  Details will be shared as we approach each event.

Holy Week will culminate with worship services on Easter Sunday, April 21.

Dr. Tom Pickering will continue his series
about the “I AM Statements of Jesus”

The two most basic question in life are, “Who am I” and “Why am I here.” We hear of college students dropping out of school and others going through what the call a mid-life crisis. They are off to find themselves. They’re tired of playing the roles everybody else has prescribed for them. They’re tired of being the person their family expects them to be, the person their friends expect them to be, the person their school or work expects them to be, the person society expects them to be, the person their church expects them to be. They want to peel away the socially prescribed identities and the culturally generated personas. They want to keep peeling those layers back until they come to the real person underneath. Jesus Christ never had this problem. Nor did the disciples after Easter Sunday. Through this series we will look into our to understand the reality that at the core of all we do is who we are. We will not discover who we are by examining what we do. The true question for lent is not who we are, but whose we are.
